Meet Kali
Early Foundation
I was blessed to grow up in a family where horses were part of daily life. My aunt operated a boutique breeding, training, and boarding facility outside Cincinnati, Ohio, providing early immersion in horsemanship and animal care. With access to the Kentucky Horse Park, Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, major horse shows in every breed and discipline, and the surrounding Amish horse culture, my understanding of horses developed through constant exposure and hands-on experience.
Alongside the horses, our family rescued abandoned dogs, cared for orphaned wildlife such as birds, reptiles, opossums and raccoons, and I spent countless hours watching barn cats raise their kittens. Caring for them instilled a deep sense of responsibility, compassion, and partnership.
While still in high school, I began teaching beginner hunter riders at Kneipp Farm and later worked under Grand Prix jumper trainer Wilhelm Genn. Horses were never a hobby — they shaped my environment, education, and early career.
I’ve also been an artist from an early age. In high school, I began selling hand-drawn horse designs and equine portraits, blending my love of horses with visual storytelling. That creative practice continues today through watercolor and other mediums.
Education & Professional Development
My early academic path began at Lake Erie College before transferring to Colorado State University, where I earned my degree in Equine Science with a concentration in nutrition and genetics, with plans to attend veterinary school and specialize in equine reproduction. During that time, I worked for Grand Prix trainer Karen Stone and traveled to Spruce Meadows in Canada — a pivotal experience where I met Professor Dave Collins of the British Columbia College of Equine Therapy, ultimately redirecting my focus toward functional anatomy, biomechanics, and whole-horse wellness.
I later worked as a groom under Olympic gold medalist Laura Kraut in Wellington, Florida, operating within elite international show jumping and gaining firsthand experience in the standards of performance, soundness, and care required at the highest level of the sport.
Alongside my academic and competitive training, I operated my own riding lesson program and braided professionally on the A-circuit, immersed in high-level show environments. From the age of fifteen until a decade ago, training, teaching, and hands-on industry work defined my daily life — some of the most meaningful years of my career.
Professional Practice
My pursuit of science — including my education at the British Columbia College of Equine Therapy — led to the clear recognition of my ability to perceive animal communication, a turning point described in the published article “Speaking to Hearts Through Animals” in Backroads Portfolio.
Since 2008, I have practiced professionally as an animal communicator, and for the past decade it has been my sole focus. While my connection with horses runs deepest, I work across species, bringing clarity to the relationships between people and the animals in their care.
Life With My Animals
After many years of owning school horses and caring for them through the full arc of their lives, I began a partnership of my own when I purchased a three-for-one: Moxie, with her first foal, Spruce, at her side and full sibling, Bravo, “in the oven.” They are the first horses I am raising and training solely for my own long-term journey, and if they enjoy the process, we may one day explore the increasingly popular equestrian sport, Working Equitation. All three are half Percheron, half Quarter Horse, with a touch of Appaloosa. At home in Colorado, I live with my senior dogs, Rooh and Ripley, and two cats, Prin and Basil, who continue to shape my understanding of friendship, communication, and care every day.
Ongoing Study & Approach
Continued study in equine nutrition, biomechanics, bodywork, and emerging research in cellular biology informs my approach. Early exposure to Dr. Bruce Lipton’s The Biology of Belief shaped my understanding of how environment, physiology, and perception influence wellbeing. When appropriate, I guide clients toward trusted professionals — including veterinary care and bodywork such as the Masterson Method — supporting each animal’s comfort and function. My work is collaborative by nature and grounded in both lived experience and formal education.
More About My Journey
For a deeper look at how this work unfolded, you can read the published article in The Backroads Portfolio called, "Speaking to Hearts Through Animals" or explore additional written features such as the in-depth interview, “Listen… Your Animals Are Talking to You,” as well as “A Skeptic’s Calls with Kali,” written by the publication’s co-creator following her personal experiences working with me.
Watch a Live Session
This recorded Halloween special with KB Media Equine offers a look at how my work unfolds in real time. In this episode, I conducted live readings without confirmation or denial from the hosts — a structured format often used to test accuracy and one that many clients still prefer.
While private sessions can be more interactive, this conversation provides a transparent glimpse into the process within a controlled setting.
